WILLIAM AND JULIA ROBERTS THATCHER CEMETERY PHOTOS

Attached are photos of Julia Roberts Thatcher (above) and her husband William Thatcher (below). Writing on the back of William’s picture in one hand/ink identifies the photographer, “Parker, Humboldt, Iowa”, which is Parker Photography Co., Humboldt, Iowa. Writing on the back of Julia’s and William’s photos, respectively, in the same hand reads “Our Dear Mother Thatcher” and “Father Thatcher”. On the back of Julia’s photo, in another hand, Hugh Thatcher (grandson of Julia), has written “mother of my dad – Hu”. On the back of William’s photo, in this same hand, Hugh has written “My dads father – Hu”. Also in the same hand is written “1880”. So, it is quite clear that the photos were taken c. 1880 by Parker, Photography. This is when Julia was about 49 and William was about 51. The references to “Our Dear Mother Thatcher” and “Father Thatcher” were likely written by their son, George B. Thatcher. It is obvious that George’s son, Hugh Thatcher, later annotated the pictures to further identify that these people were the parents of his father. Who, of course, are Julia and William Thatcher. The attached photo is of Julia’s youngest son William Seldon Thatcher. On the back is written “Will Thatcher”, then Hubert has written “my youngest and best liked uncle. Dad’s brother. Still hardy and living at Venice Calif 1951. must be 85”. Picture would be from around 1897

Attached is a picture of Julia (Roberts) Thatcher’s son George Byron Thatcher and his family. George is shown with his wife, Harriet Julia Loomis. In the back are the children, from left-to-right are George b. 1891, Hubert b. 1887, Melville b. 1885, and Claude b. 1883. Hubert Harold Thatcher, who is also known as Hu and Hugh was the Informant on his father’s (George B. Thatcher) death certificate where he is shown as Hugh H. Thatcher.
